Tacos El Monchis: Authentic Tacos in Austin, TX

If you are near Manchaca and Davis in South Austin and you haven't eaten here...you're dumb. We drive from Kyle and are happy to! We drive from downtown after work and are happy to. Don't sleep on Tacos El Monchis...seriously.

For the most part the tacos are great 4/5 times. Only thing that bothered me is twice already In the past five orders I've said no onions and there's been onions in my barbacoa Taco. I love the little sitting area in front of the truck and covering. It helps from the Sun. But it is outdoor so it can get pretty hot if you're out there during the peak heat time.

Did an UberEATS deliver. Beautiful presentation. Beautiful functional packaging (no spills!). Fully loaded tacos/ birrias. Did not skimp on meat or salsas or limes. The meat cooked perfectly. Tacos not falling apart despite all the dipping. What a find! Edit 9/16/22: fixed a spelling error above and also went back to do my own pick up. Food truck is in a nice back corner with easy parking in the gas station area. Couple working super sweet and another wonderful order done walk up in 5 mins. Just in time to rush back to work.

Bacon and egg taco... portion size was large, the tortilla was a little small. The egg was very fresh and the bacon crisp. GOOD TACO!!! I stoped by this food trailer after trying another one in south Austin. I gave the service 3 stars only because they messed up the other taco I ordered. I will definitely be coming back to this spot. Honest review from a humble day to day guy.

Skip the brick and mortars around here for this spot. It slaps so hard. The tortilla soup is legendary and the birria tacos are drool worthy with a surprising addition of chickpeas to the rich full bodied consome sauce. Fantastic service and nice people! Speak both English and Spanish. They have a nice patio with good picnic tables to eat on if you’d like to eat it here. 10/10!

I purchased 10 tacos with fajita meat. I was served on two separate plates, five tacos on each plate, and was surprised that she put cucumber and radish on top. Because I'd never really tried radish before I gave it a try, and learned that, no, I do not like radish. However, I really really enjoyed the sliced cucumber in my taco. You wouldn't think that it would work, but it did. The meat was marinated wonderfully, the tacos were absolutely delicious. The lady who took my order was very very nice. There were four tables available, but the wind was just so cold we couldn't really enjoy our food there. Otherwise, on a less windy warmer day, I think it would make a wonderful place for a picnic.

This place has some lovely tacos, and tasty salsa! The little dining area is perfect for taking a breather with some delicous food.
